Nevada Casinos Need Extension to Test Online Poker Product

Nevada_state_sealThe state of Nevada already has two online poker sites for residents and visitors to enjoy in the WSOP.com and Ultimate Poker offerings. Other sites are expected as more operators in the state get in on the action. As of now, three casinos in the state have asked to have an extension granted for their online poker license applications so testing can continue with their online poker systems.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board meeting for this month included extension requests by MGM Casino, Golden Nugget Casino and Boyd Casino. All three would like to have more time to prepare before going live online. Each casino received approval last fall and have been working to create an online poker option. However, all three are not ready and need more time to test their respective products.

If granted an extension, all three casinos would have an additional six months to finish the testing phase. With this time frame, the casinos would also be launching at a time when both New Jersey and Delaware will offer real money options so the casinos can benefit from a larger player pool in interstate game play.

A major issue facing operators in the state is player liquidity. With two sites already launched in Nevada, there is just no room to profit. Around 500 players compete regularly now between the two sites and with 3 more in the mix, this would see this number divided further. It is difficult for any other operator to justify launching now as a stand-alone provider.

New Jersey is set to launch on November 26th and Nevada is open to interstate compacts. Over the next few months we should see partnerships grow between the states offering online gaming and hopefully a framework will be created that can be patterned once more states get in on the action.
