Negreanu Wants the Government to Legalize Online Poker

It’s true that the United States, as well as many other countries in the world, have a lot to do to fully legalize poker on the web. In the US, players have an opportunity to play poker, but not in all states.

The nationwide legalization did not take place, and poker pro Daniel Negreanu believes that it should.

The GGPoker professional and one of the most popular poker players in the world reacted to the news about the new coronavirus. Many poker tournaments have been canceled, so the only logical step to prevent similar crises in the poker world is to allow players to enjoy more online poker options.

According to him, during the summertime, online poker is not very popular. Namely, when the weather is good, people either go and do things, or they simply choose to play poker in land-based casinos.

However, Negreanu claimed for DAT Poker Podcast that this summer is going to be a bit different, as more people are expected to stay at home.

This is one of the main reasons why Negreanu believes that the limitations which had been imposed by the government should be lifted for online poker. Such limitations are part of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), which was passed down back in 2006.

If this is changed, citizens from all over the US will have an opportunity to enjoy playing online poker for real money.

Negreanu stated that online poker should be legal for at least a certain amount of time, while people are staying home during the ongoing crisis caused by the coronavirus.

Negreanu Taking Measures to Protect from the Coronavirus

The poker professional already did everything he can to protect himself from the coronavirus. At the moment, he and his wife, Amanda Leatherman, are self-quarantined at home. He stated that the two of them had been preparing for “the cancellation of stuff.”

He was unable to specify how long they will remain bunkered in the house.

After that, he jokingly added that he didn’t mind staying away from people as he didn’t “like people that much anyway.”

Finally, after discussing the Trump administration, the poker pro stated that all nations should learn from Italy’s mistakes. Just 10 days ago, there were only 500 cases in the European country. Only 10 days after that, the number of cases increased to more than 9,000.

Italy first quarantined 16 million people, and the government recently decided to put the entire nation in quarantine after that. According to Negreanu, the best way to approach this is to adopt preventive measures before the virus becomes a nationwide emergency.

He stated that the real way to fight the disease is to start shutting down big gatherings. However, he was aware that places such as casinos, restaurants, and many other venues would struggle a lot.

His co-speaker Chan concluded that we might see a sort of “online poker renaissance” if the COVID-19 disease affects the big tournaments such as the WSOP.
