Action on the Final Day

Seven finalists started the tournament’s final day as James Calderaro had the largest stack. Chiappetta was third in the chip standings when the action kicked off. But, he increased his stack after his pocket aces beat Matthew Zarcadoolas’ pocket jacks thus busting him in seventh place with $29,841.

Chiappetta used pocket sevens to win a flip against David Tuthill’s A-K and eliminated him in sixth place. Eric Yanovsky used 8-7 suited to outrun Anibal Salazar’s pocket threes and knock him out in the fifth position. Still, Rafael Reis’ A-J beat his pocket jacks and eliminated him in fourth place despite winning the hand.

Reis got a significant chip lead from an ace-high flop and maintained it. He used the top two pair to call off his remaining chips facing Chiappetta’s flush and straight backdoor possibilities. The river and turn denied Reis a running jack-high straight and gave it to Chiappetta, who sent his opponent packing in third place with $90,744.

James Calderaro’s Spirited Fight

Reis’ elimination set up heads-up action between Calderaro and Chiappetta. Odds seemed to favor Calderaro first, as he got an early stack lead. Unfortunately, a flush-over-flush turned things when it favored Chiappetta.

Calderaro used AHeart SuitADiamond Suit to raise from the button in the event’s final hand, while Chiappetta used 5Heart Suit4Heart Suit to defend a big blind. The flop turned 10Heart Suit9Heart Suit2Heart Suit, and Chiappetta got a flush before he checked.

Calderaro placed a continuation wager using a nut flush draw and overpair. Chiappetta made a check-raise that prompted Calderaro to move all in. The former made a call that revealed 7Spade Suit on the turn.

The 9Spade Suit in the end, earned Chiappetta a pot. Calderaro finished second and received $123,731.
