The first World Poker Tour World Online Championship, hosted on PartyPoker, successfully wrapped up on September 24, when Michael Addamo managed to win the $102,000 Super High Roller Championship. The $10,300 Mini Super High Roller event ran concurrently, and once these two events ended, the final leaderboard saw separation and clarity.
At the top of the leaderboard was a distinguished name – Artur Martirosian. The legendary poker player had several breathtaking performances, showcasing his online poker skills in the best fashion.
Martirosian finished with a point total of 430.87, well clear of second-place finisher Scott Margereson at 377.94
Race to the Top of the Leaderboard
The race was tight at first between Martirosian and Margereson, who is from the United Kingdom. The two players raced for the final prize for the leaderboard winner, which was $50,000. Both players entered the $10,300 Mini Super High Roller event with aspirations of taking home the top prize. Their desire to top the leaderboard was evident early, as the two of them made it to the final day.
However, Margereson had to settle for sixth place, where he won a total of $47,500. As for Martirosian, he won the tournament and was named the Player of the Championship. Moreover, he also received a total of $239,500 for winning the Mini Super High Roller, and that wasn’t even his highest score in WPTWOC.
A week before the Mini Super High Roller, Martirosian took part in a $25,500 Super High Roller side event that he also won, taking home a massive $377,000 prize.
In a moment of levity, Martirosian claimed he “wasn’t even aware” of what specific circumstances needed to occur to finish at the top of the board.
Margereson had to settle for the consolation prize in the leaderboard race, which was $10,000 in cash.
Other Players in the Leaderboard
The third name that popped up in the leaderboard was Phil Mighall. He was the winner of the WPTWOC Main Event, which saw Mighall soaring his way up the leaderboard. In addition to receiving a whopping $1,550,298 as his Main Event prize, Mighall also received a paltry-by-comparison $5,000 as the third-placed competitor on the leaderboard.
Finishing in fourth place was Bulgaria’s Dimitar Danchev, who received a total of $3,000. Roberto Romanello followed him in fifth place for $2,000. Both of these players had outstanding performances at the 2020 WPTWOC.
The remaining five players who all received $1,000 each for making it onto the Top 10 list are Kristen Bicknell, Mikita Badziakouski, Andrey Kotelnikov, Teun Mulder, and Thomas Boivin.
The Rising Star Leaderboard
Players who took part in events with an under $320 buy-in and had great success made it to the rising star leaderboard. The player who managed to top that list was Luiz Constantino, who earned a total of $10,000 for his efforts. Constantino was followed by Patrick Leonard in the second place and Vyacheslav Nikulin in the third. Leonard won $6,000, and Nikulin $3,500. Finishing in fourth and fifth places were Andres Ojeda ($2,000), and Gabriel Merenda ($1,000), respectively.
