As we wait for Event #29 of the 2012 World Series of Poker to finish up, we thought we would go ahead and post the results of Event #30, the $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball tournament which finished up over the weekend. The tournament saw 285 players competing and in the end it was Larry Wright who earned his first gold bracelet with the win.
Wright has competed in several WSOP events and has come close to winning an event, but never earned a gold bracelet, that is until this past weekend. Wright admitted after the win that he had just learned how to play the Single Draw game just four days ago. Amazingly, he was able to outlast the field and earn the first place finish.
The tournament would run over three days and several top players would make it to the final day of play. By the time the tournament was three handed, the following players remained: Larry Wright, Brandon Cantu and Andrew Lichtenberger.
Wright was the short stack and both Cantu and Lichtenberger held nice sized stacks. It looked like Wright would go down in third but that was not to be. Wright started taking from Cantu’s chip stack and eventually he would become even with his fellow competitors. Lichtenberger saw his chip stack get smaller and smaller and he would finally work his way out of the tournament in third place.
This would leave Wright and Cantu in heads up play. Wright would begin heads up play with the chip lead and he would continue to dominate. Cantu was down to his last twelve blinds when the final hand went down.
Cantu went all in with 10x 9x 6x 3x draw and Wright held 9x 8x 7x 3x and Wright earned a 4x and his hand was unbeatable, giving him the first place finish!
