Benjamin Scholl wins Event #20 of 2012 WSOP

Event #20, the $5,000 Limit Hold’em Tournament of the World Series of Poker had the second smallest number of players for this year’s tournament series. Only 166 players registered for the event and it would take almost twenty seven hours for the tournament to conclude. In the end it would be Benjamin Scholl who earned the first place finish and his first ever WSOP bracelet!

When final table play began, only two tables of players would remain. Scholl would have a tough time and by final table play, Scholl would be very low in chips. Jeff Shulman would hold the chip lead with 642,000 and once the dinner break came two hours later, Scholl would hold an even lower chip stack, and things were looking grim for the poker player.

However, once dinner was over, Scholl was able to knock out Matthew Woodward and then take a good chunk of Andrew Prock’s chips to take the chip lead. Heads up play would soon begin between Scholl and Andrew Prock and Scholl would hold a significant chip lead: 1.94 million to 550,000.

It would take less than twenty minutes for Scholl to take down Prock and earn his first WSOP bracelet. Prock was down to 200,000 and the final hand would take place. Prock would decide to three bet on the pre-flop and Scholl would call. The flop ran A-6-7 and Prock bet and then Scholl called. The 7 of hearts came on the turn and Prock pushed all in with his remaining 15,000 chips. School called and showed A-10 while Prock showed pocket 3s. Prock did not earn a 3 on the river and Scholl earned the tournament win.
