Konnikova Wins WSOPC Event

The World Series of Poker continues to be one of the marquee events when it comes to live poker tournaments, but that organization has now taken things online. The World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) has been going on since the beginning of the year, and there was some big action last weekend.

The $525 WSOPC Online Main Event featured over 500 entries that boosted the prize pool to $252,000, up from $200,000. An online player by the name of “konnster” was able to walk away with the win, but there is much more to the story.

Author and poker player Maria “konnster” Konnikova walked away with the big win at this event, taking home a cash prize of $57,532. What makes this a more improbable victory was the fact that this was the first online WSOPC event that Konnikova has ever participated in.

This wasn’t the biggest win that Konniva has ever had throughout her career, but it was significant since it was the first time that she has ever won online. Her biggest win came at the PCA National back in January of 2018 as she took home $84,600 with a first place win.

2018 was a big year for her poker playing career as she also won over $57,000 by taking second place in a tournament in Macau, but that’s really all of the great success to speak of her throughout her career.

Her other three biggest wins up to this point were less than $31,000, including a 30th place finish at the PCA Main Event this year. Now that Konniva knows that she is capable of winning online, this might create a new revenue source for her.

Becoming More Popular

Maria Konnikova is not a new name on the poker circuit, but her most noteworthy claim up to this point had come in the form of a book. Konnikova authored The Biggest Bluff, and she was able to use that fame to join PokerStars as an ambassador to the company.

Her appearances and work with PokerStars will make her more of a well-known in this industry, but she will also have the chance to have more success. By winning this event, she is going to have the opportunity to enter the WSOP Tournament of Champions later this year.

Konnikova will have plenty of experience in battling some of the top players in the sport as that is what she faced in this matchup.

Beat Out Big Names

The WSOPC always seems to attract some of the best poker players in the industry, and that was the case in the main event. Jason Pew finished in second place after Konnikova was able to beat him in heads up action.

Desmond Haynes took home over $23,000 with his third place finish at this event, and he has won two bracelets in the last two years. Calvin Anderson is another notable online poker player, but he managed to finish in just fourth place, a disappointment for the veteran.
