The Super High Roller Bowl (also known as SHRB) wrapped up in London at Aspers Casino over the weekend and marked the end of another British Poker Open. The event happened for the seventh time, and players had to pay a total of £250,000 buy-in in order to take part in it. The number of runners was relatively small but expected for a super high-roller event.
There were a total of 12 people who entered the competition and created a prize pool of £3 million. In the end, it was one of the legendary poker players named Cary Katz that took the main prize home. The money he earned was the largest amount he ever earned in a single poker event.
The last opponent of Katz was another popular high roller named Ali Imsirovic. By defeating the Bosnian, Katz became one of the few chosen champions of this event. Other people that have also won the Super High Roller Bowl include Justin Bonomo, Christoph Vogelsang, Brian Rast, Rainer Kempe, and Isaac Haxton.
Katz was pretty brief in his interview after the victory. He stated that he felt “remarkably lucky” having won the biggest score of his life. Furthermore, he added that he had got lucky during the game, especially on the important hands.
He also stated that he didn’t feel as if he was on the same level as some other players in the tournament, believing that others are way better than him. Katz paid respect to his opponents, mentioning Imsirovic, Vogelsang, and Stephen Chidwick.
In the end, Katz stated that he believed that Chidwick had deserved a victory because he had played flawless poker. However, sometimes luck does matter in this game, and Katz seems to believe that he had more of it compared to other players who took part in the tournament.
The Tournament Details
People who were eliminated during the first day of the tournament included Bryn Kenney, Timothy Adams, Matthias Eibinger, and Michael Addamo. Katz was already leading in chips the moment eight players formed the final table. The last player to hit the rail before the day ended was Darren Elias, a player who managed to win WPT four times.
The two short-stacked players were David Peters and Sam Greenwood, and both of them managed to lose all of their chips in the same hand. Both of them lost to Imsirovic, who had the bullets, whereas they had pocket fives and pocket eights, respectively. In fact, Imsirovic continued to play well and soon eliminated Mikita Badziakouski with pocket kings in his hand.
Not long after the four-handed play continued, Chidwick had to hit the rail. Katz took most of his chips, and Imsirovic was, once again, responsible for taking all chips. Vogelsang was Imsirovic’s last obstacle before he was able to face Katz in the heads-up play. However, it was all in vain as Katz managed to take a lot of chips early on, only to end up a winner, earning a total of £2,100,000.
