The Garden State Super Series launched by Party Poker was the first major online poker tournament series to take place in the state of New Jersey. The event saw a great deal of hype and excitement as it was the first nice guaranteed poker series to launch in the state. With several events on the schedule, players had ample opportunity to compete, but of course the Main Event is the top tournament on the schedule. For the GSSS Main Event, players would compete beginning last Sunday, but the tournament was paused and then cancelled after serious technical issues messed up game play.
As the tournament took place, players began to report that the gaming tables were freezing even though the tournament clock was running. According to Pokerfuse, other players reported that the tournament never even started for them. Party Poker tried several times to get the tournament back on track but eventually had to cancel the event.
The scheduled Main Event had three tiers, with low/mid/high stakes. Each stake level was cancelled and players would not be able to compete to win a piece of the guaranteed prize pools. Based on the standard cancellation policies, any player that was eliminated before the technical difficulties took place will not be given a refund. Players who had tournament chips in play during the technical issues will be paid the buy-in back as well as a share of the prize pool according to the chip count at the time of cancellation.
A representative commented on the problems with the Main Event by stating that Party Poker sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience the technical issues have caused and are humbled by the experience. The site appreciates the ‘enormous burden’ placed on players and is sorry for the incident. The rep stated the group will be working hard to ensure that these technical challenges do not happen again in the future. The tournament series still has an additional week of events left on the schedule and seems to have figured out the issues to allow these events to take place.
