Geolocation Continues to be Problematic in US Online Gambling

new-jersey-stampIt started with Nevada and Delaware and has now found its way to New Jersey. Geolocation issues have been at the forefront of online poker and gambling for every state that has launched such options in the US. It seems as though verification services can never get the formula right to be able to easily detect where a player is located.

As of the beginning of the soft launch in New Jersey, players began reporting issues with location verification and as tomorrow is the scheduled date for ‘officially’ launching online gambling in New Jersey, many wonder if the state will be ready to handle larger numbers of player verification needs.

Players quickly logged on to online poker forms including PocketFives to begin chatting about their experience with online poker in the state. Many found that they were found to be in completely other states instead of right where they were, in New Jersey. One player’s device said he was located in Kansas while another was unable to have their location verified period.

One player was told that remote control software was to blame so he deleted the programs from his device that could be categorized this way and was still unable to log on successfully. This took place on WSOP, Party Poker and Ultimate Poker websites. Many were told that the WiFi connection may be to blame and a land line would be best. This seemed to work for some players.

Players continue to log on to the New Jersey Poker Community at PocketFives to report what is going on with their connection as well as the latest developments in the industry. The many different posts can be read here. For now, we wait until tomorrow to see if the state decides to go live with their online gambling sites or if the testing phase continues due to geolocation issues.
