The 2008 Full Tilt Online Poker Series got off to a great start today with event 1. The first was a $200 buy-in no limit holdem tournament hosted by Jonathan Little.
The event featured a $750,000 guaranteed prize pool that was shattered with entries from 5,319 online poker players for a total prize pool of $1,063,800. 738 players will be paid in this event, with the top two players receiving $111,167.10 and $183,526.78 respectively.
The first event had its share of both big and up and coming poker names like Marco Traniello, David Benyamine, Clonie Gowen, Beth Shak, Karina Jett, Thomas Wahlroos, Maciek Gracz, Huckleberry Seed, Chip Jett, Allen Cunningham, Jordan Morgan, Michael Craig, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Jim McManus, Lynette Chan, Aaron Bartley, Max Pescatori, Steve Brecher, Scott Fischman, JJ Liu and more, yet none of these names finished in the money.
The one lone “name in red†that did finish on the money though was Jon “PeralJammed†Turner finishing in 160th.
A little over 4 hours after it begun, El_Imbecil was sent to the rail finishing on the bubble in the first FTOPS of 2008. It took over another 4 hours after that to get down to the final table when Dudeoflife was eliminated .
The final table consisted of Bull1967, JJ COMERCE, KSmith2k7, ROBIN538, JaspudUF, EPPY1, Silent Assazin, Cwdric and cashmaker81.
The final table saw some very aggressive play and Bull1967, JJ COMMERCE and KSmith2k7 were eliminated fairly fast. Cwdric started to develop a little chip lead over the rest when cashmaker81, with Jd 9d , called ROBIN538’s all in with A9 off-suit. Diamonds did the rest as the flush came and eliminated ROBIN538.
This gave cashmaker81 the chip lead when he and Cwdric got into a big hand, an omen of things to come. Cashmaker81 ended up all in with AK and a flopped K and Cwdric had AQ, a lot of luck brought runner runner straight for Cwdric and crippled cashmaker81.
JaspudUF was next to leave the final table and then an aggressive Cwdric took out Eppy1. A big all in was survived by cashmaker81 a couple times and as the final three shaped up to be Cwdric with ~9.5 million in chips, cashmaker81 at ~3.7 million and Silent Asazin with ~2.3 million. Short stacked and against an aggressive Cwdric, Silent Azazin took his shot but came up short and now we were heads up with Cwdric at about an 11-4 chip lead over cashmaker81.
The heads up battle turned out not to be a roll over for either player. The big hand early was seeing cashmaker81 all in on the river with As4s and Cwdric calling with Ac5s. With the board 6h 4c 6c 4d Th, cashmaker81 won the hand as was now even in chips.
Just a few hands later, Cwdric raises pre-flop and cashmaker81 calls. The flop brought 5d 6s As and Cwdric bet out 2 million, cashmaker81 raises and after thinking for a bit, Cwdric folds the hand and the chip lead to cashmaker81.
Though Cwdric would pull even again a couple times the almost 2 hour heads up marathon was finally put away by cashmaker81. The tournament that started at 9 pm EST was now over at 6:45am and Full Tilt Poker‘s first FTOPS championship for 2008 goes to cashmaker81.
