The state of Pennsylvania is setting up to become the next to offer online poker in the United States, with online poker bills on the table, hearings and discussions taking place on a regular basis between legislators. The state has even more opportunity to be the next to regulate iPoker with the announcement that a fourth online poker bill is in the works.
According to numerous reports, such as the one at CardPlayer, Pennsylvania will soon have a new online poker bill introduced in the Pennsylvania Senate. The three other online poker bills were introduced in the House so this will be the first proposal for the state in the Senate. Senator Sean Wiley will be the sponsor of the bill and it has been reported that the fourth bill is still being drafted.
Speaking with co-sponsors, Wiley, stated that the legislation will be introduced in the near future to help the gaming industry of Pennsylvania to move forward. Wiley pointed out that the changes in 2004 with Act 71 was able to help the racing industry grow while the table games addition in 2010 further enhanced the gaming industry as well.
With each change over the years, the state has been able to grow economically with new jobs and help with property tax relief. With online gaming, the state would be able to further extend their gambling offerings and be able to stay in competition with neighboring states.
The new bill will allow existing casinos in the state the opportunity to offer iPoker gaming and would grandfather the state in if there are any changes to online gaming on a federal level. Wiley would see online poker come to the state by the 1st of January 2017 and would have regulations and licensing in place by July 1st 2016. The gaming license fee for operators to go online would be $500,000 with a tax rate of 36% on revenues earned.
