Esther Taylor Leads after Day 1 of WSOP Circuit Rincon

Harrah’s Rincon in San Diego, California is playing host to the WSOP Circuit Championship which began on Monday. The event saw a low draw of players, only 106, compared to last year’s 148 players. The buy-in for the event was $5,000 and after Day 1 play, Esther Taylor is in the chip lead.

Several big named players entered the tournament but could not manage to make it past Day 1. Steve Billirakis, Michael Binger, Robert Slezak, David Daneshgar, Jason Young and Robert Cheung all competed but did not survive past Day 1. Out of the 106 players competing only sixteen players remained after the end of Day 1.

Esther Taylor is the last female in the competition. Taylor took the chip lead around level ten when she held pocket kings against pocket tens. Taylor doubled up after that hand and finished the day as the chip leader. Her closest competition is Charles Williams who has about sixty thousand less chips.

It will be great if Taylor can continue her streak of great game play. A woman has never won a WSOP Circuit Championship. Kathy Liebert managed to finish third in the 2007 championship at the Rincon and Jennifer Harman finished in second place back in 2005 at the Rio.

Day 2 continued today with the sixteen players returning to compete. Nine players will cash out at the tournament.
