As reported on earlier, Dusk Till Dawn poker club was trying to get its gambling license to become the first legal poker club in the UK and on Wednesday after a three day court case, a magistrate granted that license.
After an inspection of the club, the magistrate granted a poker venue only license. Adam O’Connell of Dusk Till Dawn had this to say after the announcement, “Obviously we are all absolutely delighted. The magistrate said that if we were applying for a casino license then it would have been rejected but because they liked what we were doing, and that there was a demand for the type of poker club we were offering, they were willing to grant a license as a poker only venue.â€Â
The land base casinos of Gala, London Clubs International and Stanley Leisure put up stiff opposition claiming mainly that there was not enough interest in the this type of club to justify its opening. London Clubs International withdrew from the case after the first day but the other two were in attendance when the decision was announced.
“On the second day the magistrates inspected the club and we think this might have swung things in our favor, as they were very impressed and had a lot of questions about it.†“After the final speeches today, we had quite a long wait for the verdict, which was a very nerve wracking experience,†continued O’Connell.
The Dusk Till Dawn poker club is on target for a mid-November opening.
