Dan Shak Wins Aussie Millions $100,000 Poker Challenge

This past Saturday the 2010 Aussie Millions $100,000 AUD No Limit Hold’em Challenge began at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia with twenty four poker pros competing. The tournament offered a prize pool of $2.4 million with the winner earning the majority, a prize of $1.2 million. On Sunday the final table was in action with eight players ready to fight for the nice first place prize.

When final table play began, Dan Shak would be in the chip lead and it would help him make it to heads up play. It would be just about ten minutes before the first player would be eliminated. Howard Lederer went all in with A-10 but he ran into pocket aces held by Tony G. so Lederer was out in eighth place.

Billy Jordanou would double up from Tony G to make his stack much bigger. Tony Bloom would double up as well when he took on Barry Greenstein. Then Shak doubled up after taking on Jonathan Karamalikis.

Karamalikis then went out in seventh place when he ran into Shak’s pocket nines. Greenstein was then down in chips and he went all in with Q-10 and Bloom called. Bloom held pocket kings and would knock out Greenstein in sixth place.

A little while later Tony G would go out in fifth place and he would be followed soon by Tony Bloom and Billy Jordanou. This would leave Phil Ivey and Dan Shak to compete in heads up play. When heads up play began Ivey was in the chip lead but not by much. Shak would pull even with Ivey soon after heads up play began and he would eventually gain a slight lead.

Shak would then take a large lead and would eventually earn a win. On the final hand Ivey would open with a 100,000 raise from the button. Shak would re-raise all in preflop and Ivey would make the call. Ivey held A-10 Diamonds while Shak held A-7 Clubs. The board would run Q-7-5-4-4 and Ivey would be eliminated in second place. Shak would earn the title win and the $1.2 million prize.

3: Billy Jordanou — $300,000
4: Tony Bloom — $200,000
5: Tony G — $100,000
