Officials in the state of California will be busy today as the State Assembly will be holding a committee hearing to discuss aspects of online poker. The hearing is titled: The Future Public Policy and Fiscal Implications of Authorizing iPoker Gaming in California and will feature 33 witnesses giving testimony on the subject with various topics of discussion.
According to PokerNews, the CalChannel.com site will be holding a webcast of the meeting which will begin at 1:30 pm Pacific Time. The Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization will have nineteen members on hand during the meeting to hear the testimonies of the witnesses.
The hearing will have ten different topics and will feature groups of speakers that will cover each topic. Isadore Hall, the chairman will state the opening remarks and then the speakers will begin. Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli will be speaking on online gaming and how it has evolved while the Ultimate Gaming CEO, Tobin Prior will discuss what has been learned with the introduction of online gaming in Nevada and New Jersey. This section will also include Gambling Compliance’s Chris Krafcik and the Borgata Hotel and Casino New Jersey COO and President Tom Balance.
Each of the 33 witnesses will be able to speak and take questions from members of the committee at the end of each discussion section. The hearing should last quite a while and include local tribal chairmen. Seven tribes will be represented during the hearing with Morongo representative Robert Martin, San Manuel representative Lynn Valbueno and Mark Macarro of the Pechanga tribe.
And of course, what meeting would be complete without Sheldon Adelson being represented? Andy Abboud, the VP of the Las Vegas Sands will be on hand to discuss the socioeconomic effects that consumers can be subject to based on online poker game play.
