The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has announced they will now be offering a gambling first in the United States. The Atlantic City casino stated that beginning on February 18th, they will be offering gamblers in-room casino options via their hotel room television set. That’s right! Gamblers will be able to visit the casino and never hit the casino floor if they so choose!
The new option will make the Borgata the first US casino to offer this type of gambling option. the new program is titled E-Casino and will allow players to obtain a special card which will house their electronic account. Up to $2,500 can be wagered each day via the E-Casino point and the first games available will be slots and four video poker options.
The Borgata stated that the technology used has the option of expanding to offer gambling options via handheld devices as well, which could be used anywhere on the property as well as internet gambling, if allowed by the state. Tom Balance, the President and Chief Operating Officer for the casino stated: “This puts us in a position to leverage the technology into true mobile gaming and Internet betting later on. We’re moving forward with the future of gaming, and this is that first step.”
The Vice President of Information Technology, John Forelli, also commented on the new option, calling it not only an added amenity but also a new way for players to become adapted to electronic gambling accounts for when the state allows online gambling options. The casino is hoping that the new option will be viewed as an added attraction for customers to try and does not expect the new electronic option to supersede their casino floor.
It will be interesting to see how the new technology will be received by patrons at the casino. Most people enjoy the excitement and noise of the casino floor but younger players may like the option of gambling once they reach their hotel suite. Only time will tell how well the new option will do and if it will help bring patrons to the casino or have little to no effect.
