978 players registered to compete in Event #47 of the 2012 World Series of Poker. The $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better event lasted three days and in the end it was Steven Loube, a personal injury lawyer from Atlanta, Georgia who earned the win. The thirty four year old attorney earned his first World Series of Poker bracelet with the win.
The third day would last only eight hours before Loube would earn the title. Viatcheslav Ortynskiy was the first to go after taking on Sonu Sharma. Ortynskiy was out in tenth place. Tim Finne would then leave in ninth at the hands of Paul Ewen and Kyle Carlston would follow close behind in eighth place.
Loube would then take out Paul Taylor in seventh place and then Sharma in sixth. Loube seemed to gain confidence at this point and was looking good to take down the title. Charalampos Lappas would then go out in fifth place.
Roch Cousineau and Cameron McKinley would be the next two to go head to head and Cousineau would come out on top leaving McKinley eliminated in fourth place. Cousineau would then be defeated in third after taking on Loube and this would leave Loube and Tim Finne in heads up play.
Loube held a 3-1 chip lead and it would take just a few hands for Loube to claim his first ever WSOP gold bracelet. The final hand would see Finne limp in on the button and Loube raise 180,000, which Finne would call. The flop fell 3hearts-10hearts-Kingspades. Loube then bet 360,000 and Finne called all in which Loube called as well.
Finne held Kclubs-Qdiamonds-Jspades-6hearts and Loube held Ahearts-7hearts-4diamonds-3diamonds. The turn brought a Queen of spades giving Finne two pair but a 9 of hearts on the river gave Louse the nut flush and the win.
Finne spoke with PokerNews after the tournament was over and stated that his biggest win before this was a $50 gift certificate which he could use for food but not booze! Now the player has a nice chunk of change to take home as well as a gold bracelet and bragging rights!
