The 2020 World Series of Poker Online started on WSOP.com as a US-only tournament, only to transition to GGPoker and offer bracelet events to players worldwide. Apart from the overall leaderboard, the WSOP officials thought it would be nice to create a set of events that will be called the Asia Time Zone. This also included a separate leaderboard for players who decided to take part in this series.
Almost all of the WSOP Online events have wrapped up, including all that is part of Asia Time Zone, meaning the winner could be pronounced. This turned out to be Luis Assuncao Garla, a player from Brazil, who managed to collect a total of 3,568 points. Garla was leading all the way through the end and received a Pure Gold Dragon as a trophy for his success.
Garla’s full name is actually Luis Eduardo Assuncao Garla, and he is currently located in the 49th place in Brazil’s all-time money list, with a total of $518,153 in live earnings, according to his Hendon Mob profile.
His biggest live cash was $230,487, which he earned after finishing in the 34th place at the 45th World Series of Poker (2014 WSOP) in Las Vegas. He landed his biggest WSOP cash after taking down Event #55: $8,00 No-Limit Hold’em Asia Championship of the 2020 World Series of Poker Online. This even is actually the main reason why Garla managed to top the leaderboard in the first place. Garla was also pretty active in Brazilian events, with his biggest success being finishing a runner-up at the Brazilian Series of Poker in 2015, when he won $55,250.
Other Players in the Leaderboard
The second-ranked player was Nick Maimone from the US, who managed to collect 3,227.21 points. It would be an overstatement to say that he was right behind Garla, as there was more than a 300-point difference between the two.
The third-place belonged to Trygve Leite, a player from Norway who recently won a gold bracelet in Event #75: $300 Double Stack No Limi Hold’em. His total number of points was 2,642.06, meaning he was way behind the first two on the leaderboard.
But Roberto Romanello was close to Leite and needed just a bit under 150 points to overtake him. However, it wasn’t meant to be, so Romanello had to settle for the fourth place on the leaderboard and 2,507.53 points.
The fifth place was reserved for a poker pro Anson Tsang, who had a total of 2,226.82 points. He was followed by Aaron Wijaya from China with 2,245.04 and Sung Joo Hyun from South Kora for 2,190.12.
The eight places were reserved for Greece’s Alexandros Theologis (1,996.79 points), and Alexander Stacey made it to the ninth place with 1,973.82 points. Malaysia’s Paul Teoh occupied the tenth place of this list, with a total of 1,972.18 points.
