888poker Completes Its 20th Anniversary Celebration While WPT Schedules Its Big Finale for December

This year will go in the poker history books for several reasons. Among them, 888poker and the World Poker Tour (WPT) are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.

The two brands worked in their own different ways to celebrate 20 years of providing prestigious poker events. Here is a look at how 888poker and WTP celebrated or intended to mark their 20 years in the poker industry.

888poker Marks Its 20th Anniversary With Prestigious Events

888poker commenced its celebrations with the XL Winter Series. This was followed by an online event dubbed Retro Week, marking the return of the biggest and most famous tournaments at 888poker.

The World Series of Poker played a huge role in the 888pokers celebration. This is because the latter poker brand decided to send some of its players to participate in the largest poker tournament in Las Vegas.

The poker room sent 34 players to the WSOP event, including 20 qualifiers. While none reached the final table, they fought a good fight.

Four 888poker Players Made to Day 5

Reaching Day 5 of the Main Event is not an easy process. Yet, four players wearing 888poker patch, including Thiago Pirani, Alexandre Mantovani, Padraig O’Neill, and Danny Lavoie, made it.

This year’s WSOP tournament is the second largest main Event in history after the 2006 tourney. The event had 8,663 registered players, each paying $10,000 for a chance to battle for the top title. By the time Day 5 kicked off, only 380 players were still in the race.

Lavoie has been with 888poker for a long time, earning a free full Main Event experience. He finished in 296th place, winning $40,900.

Pirani busted out in 157th place, earning 462,500. He was the most successful qualifier after spending $22 to qualify for the Main Event by playing one online satellite. Padraig and Alexandre earned $46,800 each following their elimination on Day 5.

WPT Continues Its 20th Anniversary Celebrations

888poker was not the only poker room celebrating 20 years of quality service. The WPT is celebrating its anniversary this year. The brand is yet to complete its celebrations as it has spread various events to the end of the year.

WPT has signed several ambassadors such as Doyle Brunson and Steve Aoki to mark the celebrations. It has also launched WPT Prime to replace WPTDeepStacks. Apart from that, World Poker Tour has partnered with FanJolt to enter the NFT space.

The poker room plans to go bigger during the year’s second half. It has scheduled main poker tours in Florida and Australia.
The tour will also return to the Bike in California for the Legends of Poker series. The World Poker Tour World Championship is also scheduled to return. The tournament will occur at Wynn Las Vegas for the first time, featuring Ladies World Championship and WPT Main Event with a $15,000,000 guarantee.

The WPT World Championship will run for the first 20 days of December. Participants will enter the event with a buy-in of $10,000.

According to Adam Pliska, the scheduled world poker championship is one of WPT’s most ambitious projects in its 20 years of operations. The WPT World Championship Schedule is already published for the public.
