Joey Weissman, a Boca Raton resident, is a two-time U.S. Poker Open (USPO) winner after leading in the 2023 USPO kickoff tournament. He beat 104 opponents in the $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold ’em event and won $231,000, the second-biggest payout in his poker career.
Latest reports show that Weissman has over $5 million in poker tournament earnings. He bagged $204,000 in the 2021 USPO after winning the $10,000 NLH tournament.
Besides winning money and the title in his recent victory, Weissman amassed 600 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points that improved his rank in this year’s POY race standings to the 39th position. The poker player has won two titles since January.
Besides, he garnered 231 PokerGO Tour (PGT) points which earned him a 35th-place position on the leaderboard.
The latest event lasted for two days. But its field had reduced to six players late in Day 1, Justin Young leading the pack and Weissman being second.

What Transpired on Day 2?
Jonathan Little, a two-time World Poker Tour (WPT) winner, got busted first on the final day after his pocket sevens lost to Andrew Moreno’s A-J in pre-flop. The latter got the stack lead after a jack-high flop and maintained it on the river before sending Little packing.
Jose Barbero followed Little in fifth place after making a five-bet shove from a small blind. Young used A-K suited to raise and make a four-bet on the button before calling.
Barbero’s K-J didn’t hold, and an ace on the flop ended his run after he drew dead. It was his sixth time to advance to a final table in 2023, winning two titles and accruing over $3,048,550 in POY earnings.
Young’s flopped second pair defeated Matthew McEwan’s bottom pair and eliminated him in fourth place. Moreno opted to use pocket sevens while going all-in against Weissman’s A-K. The coin flip favored the latter earning him a king on the flop and the chip lead.
Blanks on the river and turn maintained his lead as Moreno exited the tournament in third place, setting up heads-up action between Weissman and Young, who had an almost 3:2 chip advantage.
The two top finalists battled it out for 90 minutes, during which Weissman got the lead and extended it to about 4:1 when the dealer dealt the tournament’s final hand. Young used AClub Suit7Diamond Suit from the button to raise and Weissman used ASpade SuitQClub Suit to three-bet.
Young later made a 26 big blind four-bet shove. The board came down KHeart Suit4Spade Suit2Heart SuitKDiamond SuitAHeart Suit after Weissman called.
Both of them got kings and aces. But, a queen kicker earned Weissman the title and pot.
