Sports Illustrated Casino Leaving Michigan

Global Poker Brings Back Micro Thunder Online Tournament Series In March

The Michigan online casino market has become the biggest in the United States, but that doesn’t mean that it’s growing all of the time. In fact, another online casino is going to be leaving the market at some point in 2024, and that will take away a potential option for the top players.

Sports Illustrated (SI) is the online casino that will be exiting the state soon, and this move has been expected for awhile. Not only was SI not extremely popular in the state, but there are some other reasons that this online casino simply can’t stay relevant.

Those who have enjoyed playing at the SI online casino can still use it until the end of 2024, but that is when the reign is going to end. Evoke recently ended the contract with Sports Illustrated, and that essentially took away all of the online casino technology.

While this will take away an online casino operator from Michigan, it’s also going to leave a spot that will likely be filled. Since this online casino market continues to put up some big numbers, there will be other operators that want to enter the state.

Just No Revenue

Sports Illustrated is still doing great when it comes to the magazine industry, but there wasn’t a ton of revenue coming from the iGaming industry. The SI Casino brought in just $1.21 million in revenue during the month of April, and that was easily the lowest total out of the 15 operators.

The total online casino revenue in Michigan was more than $192 million last month, and that just shows how little SI was producing. FanDuel and DraftKings combined to bring in more than $100 million in revenue in April.

There have been some months when SI has been able to put up some solid revenue numbers, but they were never even in a position to crack the top 10. Hard Rock Bet is expected to be one of the operators that will pursue the open online casino license.

888 Holdings (Evoke) is planning to leave the United States altogether as it has sold it’s U.S. assets to Hard Rock.

Not a Long Run

The SI Casino hasn’t even been around long in the state of Michigan, and that’s another reason why it wasn’t putting up a ton of revenue. This is such a highly competitive online casino industry, and it was hard for this company to make any sort of progress.

SI actually took the place of TwinSpires after that company decided to leave the state back in 2021. Being the 15th online casino operator was never going to produce a ton of revenue, and SI has seen similar results in the online sports betting industry.

Evoke is going to continue to try to gain a larger market share in Michigan until the end of the year, but it’s not likely going to matter. The SI Casino was offering similar games to other online casino in Michigan, but just couldn’t land new customers.
