NetEnt Suspends Street Fighter II Over Responsible Gambling Concerns

NetEnt recently released their brand new slot called Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. However, just one week after its launch, the Swedish operator had to suspend the game as there were “internal concerns” related to responsible gambling. Namely, NetEnt’s team was worried about the staking behavior noticed among some players.

Apparently, players displayed an unforeseen staking behavior as the game allows bet sizes to change as players get closer to the bonus round. At the time of writing the article, the game is still available as a demo, meaning that the players can still try it for free and test its features. However, Street Fighter II is not available as a real money slot anymore which means that all casinos that feature games by NetEnt are not offering the game to players.

Victor Melander, Head of Communication at NetEnt, confirmed that the game was made temporarily unavailable for real money. The company doesn’t know what will happen with the game right now. There’s a possibility that the company would create a new release, but an internal investigation is in order first to determine what needs to be changed in the game to enhance responsible gambling.

According to the statement released by NetEnt, the “player staking behavior could impact the intended gameplay experience.” Moreover, the company reassured the players that the game was “performing within the expected parameters.”

In other words, there was a certified math model and return to the player score that was active, meaning the game wasn’t rigged. Instead, it just made many players engage in odd staking behavior, and that raised some concerns.

The statement says that the company needs to take two important steps concerning the issue above. First of all, the game needs to be temporarily disabled, and, second, the NetEnt team needs to find a fix for the problem. According to the statement, the team has discovered how to fix the game, and they are working on it currently.

Other Games by NetEnt

It’s completely understandable to be a bit disappointed by this piece, especially if you’re a fan of NetEnt games. The Swedish company has been the industry leader for a long time, and Street Fighter II was the game many were looking forward to playing. NetEnt joined forces with CapCom to make the release of the classic game for online slot players, and they did it in the best way possible.

Nevertheless, NetEnt has many great games that you can play while you wait for Street Fighter II to come back. In case you haven’t had an opportunity to play slots by this provider, you should definitely start with some classic titles such as Dead or Alive, Starburst, Jimi Hendrix, Guns ‘N Roses, and more. Thousands of players around the globe play all of these games, and some of the luckiest ones even get to receive hefty cash prizes for doing so.
