Craps is one of the most popular table games in Las Vegas. Fortunes may be won or lost in the matter of a few rolls. The big difference depends on which side of the dice a player bets.
Many players come to Las Vegas to play craps because it is illegal in neighboring states that otherwise have casino gambling. The three closest states to Southern Nevada – Arizona, California and Utah – do not allow live craps. Utah does not have any gambling at all.
Most Las Vegas tourists stay on the Strip. This is where the worst craps rules may be found, however, the game still offers a reasonable player return compared to other table games.
Most craps games on the Las Vegas Strip offer 3-4-5 odds. This means that a player wagering on the Pass Line or Come bet may only place odds three times the wager on 4 or 10, four times on 5 and 9, and five times on 6 and 8. This makes the house liability on any rule just 6 times the actual bet.
Example: A player that bets $10 on the Pass Line can place $30 on a 4 or 10, $40 on a 5 or 9, and $50 on a 6 or 8. All of these odds bets will win $60 if the number is rolled.
Casino Royale Best Strip Craps Odds
There is one notable exception to the low craps odds on the Strip. Casino Royale allows 20 times odds on all bets. This is a major reduction from the 100 times odds that were allowed until last year. Stratosphere, if you consider that to be a Strip resort, spreads 10 times odds. On the opposite end, Circus Circus allows just double odds for all numbers. All other Las Vegas Strip properties spread 3-4-5 games.
Riviera tried to bring quality gaming to the Strip in 2012. It added Single-Zero Roulette, No Commission Pai Gow, and Single Deck Blackjack that paid 3-2 on a natural. Its craps gimmick was 1000 times odds. A player with a $5 line bet could put $5,000 behind it. This only lasted a few months. The great roulette, Pai Gow, and blackjack games were pulled. The craps rules were dropped to 3-4-5, matching most other Strip properties.
Downtown Las Vegas is a better place to play craps than the Strip. Players will find 20 times odds at Main Street Station. The D, El Cortez and Golden Gate offer 10 times odds. A few other properties offer five times craps odds. Plaza and Las Vegas Club once spread 10 times games. These are now 3-4-5 odds.
Off-Strip Craps
Rampart once spread 100 times craps. This was dropped to 10 times a few weeks before new management took over the property in 2012. Players looking for good craps off the Strip can find 20 times at the Eastside Cannery and Sam’s Town on Boulder Highway. All Station Casinos properties spread 10 times games. The higher end Station resorts bumped the games up from 3-4-5 in 2012.
Effects of Odds on House Advantage
Taking maximum odds on Pass Line and Come bets can lower the house edge. A 20x game can bring the house edge down to just .1% on Pass Line and Come bets. The Strip 3-4-5 games still have an edge better than most blackjack games, giving the house just a .37% advantage. The higher the odds a player takes, the higher the variance, so this type of play requires a larger bankroll to lower the risk of going bust.
