Yesterday, January 20, the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) permitted a regulation allowing users to verify their cashless gaming accounts from anywhere. This approval comes after Omer Satter’s multiple requests about it.
Omer is a co-CEO of Sightline Payments, a cashless gaming technology platform. Omer recommended the new regulations to NGC officials.
The commission had signed off the new changes last month, followed by the approval yesterday. Expressing his joy, Satter told the commission that the firm had waited for such a change of regulations for 17 years. Satter also confirmed that the firm was at the edge of adopting the technology.
Resorts World Las Vegas and Aliante Casino by Boyd Gaming are the two gaming properties that use the Sightline Payments system. It allows clients to use the mobiles to pay for their games on slot machines and table games.
The commission had previously approved cashless gaming in Nevada in June 2020. It might have been motivated by the need to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Sightline Payments proposed an amendment to the registration regulation the same year. It later submitted an amended petition following its launch with Resorts World and the Aliante casinos.
The Wait Is Over
Previously, Sightline Payments clients waited long hours before the operators could verify their accounts. Usually, clients would download the app before getting to the casino. But, they could not complete the registration process.
Instead, they had to get to the casino to show identification information to a casino employee before completing their registration. If other clients want the same service, they could wait for even two hours in line before completing the registration process. Then, they would add funds and start playing.
Players waited for over two hours at the latest casino on the Strip to get verified. However, the Aliante Casino verification process was shorter, taking up to 40 minutes.
Starting yesterday, users can complete the registration on their own. They can upload a government document such as a driver’s license. Then, you have to answer several historical questions about yourself.
For example, the questions can ask you where you schooled or your previous residence. Another requirement might be providing a utility bill or any information that would help the operator confirm your identity.
Clients will proceed to the gaming floor after entering the premises. But, the casino might ask for your identification.
Yesterday’s approval allows casinos players to complete their registration on the Sightline Payments. However, sports bettors must go to their respective physical sportsbook locations to complete registration.
Satter’s Petition Faced Some Opposition
The NGC approved Satter’s petition unanimously. However, not all commissioners were fully supporting the idea. For example, Commissioner Ogonna Brown was concerned about safeguards and protections in-person verification offered.
On the other hand, Commissioner Ben Kieckhefer noted the new changes favored visitors who came to Vegas for a moment. He said it was unfair for such players to wait in line for two hours while they could be using the time playing casino games.
He added that people registering with Sightline Payments online would be playing at a casino. Hence, any security concerns should not be an issue as they would be addressed easily. Ben concluded that the proposed petition was worthwhile.
