The Londoner Confirmed to Open in Macau in February

Even though Macau still feels the presence of the Covid-19 pandemic, Sands China seems to be working very hard on its latest project, not giving up on its goals for the Asian gambling Mecca.

Sands China plans to open its latest venue in the city, called The Londoner, and it will come sometime in February. The property is inspired by England’s capital and will give everyone an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the Home of Big Ben. This seems like an interesting idea that would attract plenty of tourists, especially during the Covid times, when many of them are not allowed to visit London at all.

A Look at the Londoner

Initially, The Londoner was scheduled to open in 2020, but the coronavirus got in the way. The property that’s home to The Londoner was called Sands Cotai, named after the city of its location and its operator. However, Sands China decided to take a bold step forward and redesign the property to capture the essence of Great Britain. Visitors will have an opportunity to encounter many elements pointing to the culture and history of the Island.

This approach is not new to Sands, which has been designing properties after all kinds of exotic places around the globe. Some of the popular Sands venues are The Parisian and The Venetian, and the time has come for the city of London to get a casino property named after it. It appears that will happen in the next couple of months when The Londoner opens its doors to the visitors.

Interestingly, the property will start working just before the Chinese New Year, which will mark the beginning of the Year of the Ox. During that period, Chinese residents travel a lot and have holidays all over the country, and Macau usually sees a massive influx of tourists from all parts of China.

Still, it’s safe to assume that the number of visitors in 2021 will be slightly smaller compared to previous years due to lingering fears of Covid-19. There’s a good reason to believe that the number of tourists will definitely be bigger than in 2020.

The Londoner Soft Launch Scheduled for January 22

Before the property officially opens its doors, it will start operating unofficially on January 22, when the soft launch is scheduled.

The operator has spent a total of $2 billion on redesigning the old property and adding the spirit of London to it. However, recuperating that money will now be more difficult than expected due to the ongoing pandemic.

Nevertheless, COO and President of Las Vegas Sands, Rob Goldstein, believes that the money wasn’t spent in vain. In fact, he believes that LVS did an excellent job, as the company believes that there’s a bright future for entertainment in Macau.

The Londoner will offer much more than Sands Cotai, with two additional all-suite hotels, plenty of retail offering, a brand new MICE space, and much more.
