The tour revealed a new and exquisite red-carpeted casino floor. The floor will bring in more patrons and staff after completion.
The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily delayed the expansion of Southland Casino. The pandemic hit the world at large and led to the closure of several businesses.
Now that the effects of the pandemic have been minimized, most businesses have resumed their operations. Construction in Southland Casino is expected to pick up the pace. The new casino is expected to be up and running by April 2020.
Increasing the Casinos Gaming Floor
The cost of expansion is estimated at around $300 million. The cost will cater to upgrading the current gaming floor to 113,000 square feet, equivalent to about two football fields. The gaming hub’s totals will increase to 2,400 slot machines; six new restaurants will be constructed, more table games, and the casino will also open four more bars.
Southland Casino will build a new hotel with 300 guest rooms stretching skyward at the Southland Complex. The hotel, which will have 20 levels, will consist of a multi-level parking area that can house about 1250 vehicles and 80 suites, together with presidential suites.
The ongoing construction upgrade is the third one since the Southland Casino was established. In 2012, Southland Casino constructed a bar at $11 million costs.
In 204, the casino launched Sammy Hagar’s Red Rocker Bar and Grill and opened additional places for slot machines. The 2014 upgrade cost the casino $39 million.
Creating More Jobs for West Memphis Residents
The expansion at Southland Casino means the casino will require more patrons and more staff. After the upgrade, the casino will create more jobs for the people of West Memphis.
According to Mayor Marco, Southland Casino will have over 400 job opportunities due to the expansion. As the casino grows, so will West Memphis in general.
Southland Casino has held two hiring events related to the expansion. One was held at FedEx Forum at Beale ST on January 26th, and the other was at Southland kennel Club on February 2nd.
There have been job fairs held weekly up to March 9th. The casino will also host a fair job party on March 5th.
The money used on the renovation will create a more welcomed tax for West Memphis town. The casino is increasing the ante by offering $2000 bonuses. The standard pay for workers will be $15 per hour.
About Southland Casino
Southland Casino was established in 1956 as Southland Park. The casino was used as a dog racing track.
It was the only greyhound racetrack in Arkansas after Riverside Kennel Club. Delaware North Companies Inc. purchased the park.
