Pennsylvania Lottery Launches Keno Games

The month of May signaled yet another change to the gambling landscape of Pennsylvania. Late last year, lawmakers of the state approved a gaming expansion law that would allow for several changes within the existing gambling industry, including adding new games to the Pennsylvania Lottery. On May 1st, the lottery began to offer a keno gaming option in local bars and restaurants.

Lottery players in the state will now have the ability to play Keno, a quick-paced lottery style game. Bars and restaurants can now offer the game, the first to be launched as part of the gaming expansion. Players can wager $1-$20 per game, choosing up to 10 numbers from a pool of 1 to 80. A computerized random draw will then take place involving 20 numbers and players who manager to have a match will win a cash prize.

The games are set up so that a new drawing takes place in four-minute increments. Players can view the drawings on a monitor within the venue where the game is played. Winning numbers will also be available on the mobile application of the Lottery as well as via PALottery.com.

Many opponents to the game of keno worry that with the quick games comes the potential for players to become addicted to the gambling game. To help with risk mitigation, the Lottery has created an option where players can limit as well as monitor how much they wager and the time they spend playing the game via an online account.

To take part in keno gaming, players must be physically located in the state plus be 18 years of age or older. The game is the first of many set to launch in Pennsylvania later on the month, the state Lottery plans on setting up online gaming and offering 10 to 15 different lottery games.
