Almost all the monthly numbers are in for the casino gaming revenue totals for Mississippi and already, the industry has earned $1,950,495,795.55. This number is the adjusted gross gaming revenue for the year minus December totals. The best month for the state was February when just over $190 million was earned. Once December has been added in, it seems the state will most likely surpass the $2 billion mark.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission has reported that the coastal casinos have been the big earner for the year yet again with an expected $1.2 billion to be earned for 2016. For the coastal casinos, the revenues continue to increase. Go back as far as 2009 and the casinos had broken the $1 billion mark. 2015’s revenues of $1.14 billion was a nice increase from 2014’s $1.08 billion, with a 6% increase for the year. It seems 2016 will see the casinos to push past the $1.2 billion mark.
Along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, there are twelve casinos in operation. The last casino to open along the coast was the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort which opened its doors back in December of 2015. Other casinos in the area continue to upgrade their properties and offer promotions to keep gamblers interested and coming back for more.
Visitors to the Mississippi Gulf Coast will find a large selection of gaming options plus amenities. When the Scarlet Pearl was created, it was set to have entertainment amenities and a big investment of the property is the miniature golf course of world class scale. Upgrades that took place along the coast this year include many suites of the IP Casino Resort & Spa being renovated as well as the Harrah’s Gulf Coast opening up their renovated hotel before the summer season as well as a new dining venue.
Even more gaming will be offered in the area in the future as 2016 resulted in an announcement by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe. The tribe plans on working with Biloxi Boardwalk Ventures, a local developer, to create a casino resort in the area under the Foxwoods brand.
The year was a good one for the state and it will be interested to see what happens in 2017.
