After months of preparation for this week’s meetings, it comes as no surprise to Springfield residents as MGM officials had already spread the word on the streets concerning their mass recruitment plan.

According to one of the company’s executive officials, Wanda Gispert, awareness of the recruitment was done widely in schools, community centers, and even churches.

The Vice president of Human Resource at MGM Springfield echoed her confidence that most of the vital positions will likely be filled before the grand opening.

Once in full operation, the company estimates to have 3500 employees on board working in different departments. Currently, the slots looking to be field are in the casino center, hotel, entertainment complex which features a movie theater, restaurants, bowling alley and retail shops.

As one of the two gaming operators in Massachusetts to be issued with the license for full-scale commercial casino operation, MGM Springfield will have to ensure that two-thirds of the employees are from Springfield as this is one of the license terms.

Concerns about Springfield residents with a criminal record being exempted from applying for certain positions has been lifted following the move by several state officials to issue strict regulations on MGM recruitment process.

Over 127 positions have been exempted by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. This means about 800 jobs will be open to the public without much scrutiny. Most of these positions are in food service, maintenance, and reception.

However, individuals with a criminal record will not be allowed to access the gaming floor, and confidential information as these are considered vital for the company.

The company is expected to conduct background checks on potential employees minus the help of recruitment agencies. Such hands-on move ensures credibility in quality of employees being absorbed by the company.
