Hollywood Casino Joliet can soon move from its current riverboat property to a land-based site. This comes after the Joliet City Council approved the request from Penn Entertainment to redevelop the casino at another location.
Hollywood Casino Joliet is one of Penn Entertainment’s four projects. The gaming operator has a budget of $850 million dedicated to these projects.
Penn Entertainment’s Four Projects
Penn Entertainment announced its $850 million project in October last year. It included moving riverboats casinos in Joliet and Aurora to land.
Aurora casino will be constructed next to the Chicago Premium Outlets Mall. The $360 million project will include a casino with 50 table games, a poker room, a baccarat room, 900 slot machines, and a retail Barstool Sportsbook. The facility will also have a 10,000-square-foot meeting venue, an events center, a full-service spa, restaurants, bars, and a 200-room hotel.
The Aurora City Council approved the relocation of the Hollywood Casino. The city also approved a $50 million financial assistance from a tax increment financing district to help relocate the Hollywood Casino Aurora.
Penn Entertainment also announced the construction of a new hotel at Hollywood Casino in Columbus. The operator will spend $100 million to build the hotel, attaching it to the Hollywood Casino building. This hotel will create 100 new jobs.
The gaming operator plans to build another hotel at the M Resort in Henderson, Nevada. The $206 project will see the construction of a 384-room hotel.
This will increase the resort’s capacity to 774 suites and rooms. In addition, the budgeted money will go to expanding the facility’s meeting space, amenities, and local corporations.
Joliet Casino Project
Hollywood Casino Joliet currently sits at 777 Hollywood Boulevard. Many acres surrounding the property are slowly being acquired for industrial projects.
The new Joliet casino will cost $185 million, featuring high-end restaurants, bars, an events center, and 100,000 square feet of meeting space. The casino floor will hold 45 table games, a retail Barstool Sportsbook, a baccarat room, 45 table games, and 800 slot machines.
The new casino will be part of the Rock Run Crossing project at Interstate 80 and 55 interchange. Cullinan Properties has been developing Joliet Rock Run Crossings for the past ten years, completing so much work since October 2020.
Cullinan Properties is currently constructing 800 apartments along 55 corridor, along Joliet Interstate. The project will also include building a business center, dog parks, fitness room, clubhouse, pickleball courts, and a pool with cabanas and a gazebo.
Hollywood Casino Joliet is moving to a super attractive region. This is according to Cullinan Properties, which has described Rock Run Crossings as such because the area will attract visitors from Central Illinois to Chicago.
Having a casino in the region fits into the multi-use development project. In other words, the facility will have a place to live, play, shop, and work. Penn Entertainment might begin construction of the casino later this year.
Another commercial project planned for the area is Regal Cinemas movie theater. The property is yet to be built since the announcement in 2019. This plan may have to wait longer, especially after Regal’s parent company went bankrupt in 2022.
