Fallsview Poker Classic Subject to Ticket Scalping

Ticket scalping is nothing new and usually done at sporting events or concerts. When a particular musical act or team is performing, tickets can sell out quickly and scalpers can get a pretty penny from fans who want to attend a sold out event. Scalpers will up the price by hundreds of dollars to make money off of desperate fans. Poker players were recently subject to ticket scalping at high prices during the Fallsview Poker Classic in Niagara Falls this past weekend after the first event of the series sold out. Players were none too happy to see the scalping taking place at the series, which will include World Poker Tour Main Event.

Niagara Falls is currently playing host to the Fallsview Poker Classic and the series kicked off with the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em tournament which started on Saturday. By Monday, reports of ticket scalping surfaced once the 500 player cap was reached for each Day 1 starting flights. According to a report at PokerNews, sources have stated that scalpers were purchasing transferable tickets from the Event #1 satellite winners and then illegally selling these tickets at a high price once the event was sold out. Tickets were as high as $1,800 to compete.

Several players reported seeing tickets purchased for over $1,000. Scott Davies came to Niagara Falls to compete in the Day 1b gaming and was not happy with what he saw. Davies took to TwoPlusTwo to discuss the event and stated that it was pretty awful that the casino created the perfect conditions for the scalpers to sell tickets. Davies said the casino caps the number of entries then lets people buy multiple fully-transferable tickets and then do not take any alternates the day of the tournament. This cuts off the supply at the same time the demand begins to peak, creating the black market for tickets.

This isn’t the first time ticket scalping has taken place during the Fallsview Poker Classic. Last year, players reported that this same activity was happening with the first event and many were surprised to see the very same taking place at this year’s opening event.
