Cabdriver Returns Casino Winnings; Tipped Only Small Percentage

When someone loses a great deal of money, they can only hope that it is returned. Most people have lost their wallet or cash before and it can be a real blow to their bank account. Imagine losing over $221,000! Even having this amount of money is unimaginable to many people but one lucky winner in Las Vegas had won this amount and lost it in a cab. The cab driver returned the cash to the player and was rewarded, but the amount was considered low for the amount of money returned.

The cab driver, Adam Woldermarim, turned in the laptop case which he found in his cab that contained $221,510. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported this incident this week and stated that Woldermarim returned the case full of cash. The owner of the cash won the large amount of money from the Wynn casino and as a thank you for the money being returned; the winner gave Woldermarim a verbal Thank You and then tipped him $2,000.

The $2,000 tip is less than 1% of the six figure amount and friends of the driver have stated that they believe the tip should have been larger. Woldermarim has remained ambivalent about the size of the tip. The cab driver works long hours, sometimes twelve hour shifts, and earns only $350 a week, so the money definitely has been beneficial, but his friends felt like more cash was in order.

This instance goes back to the age old argument of tipping. It is customary for people to tip service people at least 15 to 20 percent but many people do not. The $2,000 tip may seem generous to some while a stiff to others. At least the winner was thankful and did give the cab driver the $2,000 tip for returning the cash to its rightful owner.
