Minh Nguyen, a New Jersey poker player, won the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event No. 85:$1,500 The Closer and took home $536,280 and a gold bracelet. The tournament had 2,039 entrants who formed a $962,280 prize pool.
Nguyen beat 17 players who returned on the final day and defeated Ahmed Karrim in a heads-up battle. He began the day as the stack leader and scored a few knockouts that helped him maintain his lead.
The player told PokerNews reporters after the tournament that the series was tough at the beginning and was 0-5 before he min-cashed. He has had a tough year so far, and he felt great after winning The Closer.
Yet, he had promised his vibrant trail a party after the event even if he would lose. He disclosed that he would buy them food and entertain them.

Action on the Final Day
The tournament’s final day started with 17 players, and the final table was set slightly after an hour. Vincent Lam was the first player to go home.
He got busted in 10th place after Karrim’s pocket kings beat his ace-jack. This was his seventh cash in the series besides finishing fourth in the $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Omaha tournament.
Zach Johnson and Rudy Cervantes followed him in ninth and eighth place, respectively. Liang’s ace-queen held a pair on the flop and knocked them out. Cervantes has made three cashes so far in the 2022 WSOP, including finishing 48th in the series’ Main Event.
Samuel Brown left the table in seventh place with $83,540 after Carr’s ace-king defeated his king-queen when he got in. The hand increased Carr’s stack to more than 30 million chips despite not being too active earlier in the day.
Daniel Tabello went in with jack-eight from a short stack but got busted in sixth place after Karrim used pocket tens to call. The latter held and eliminated the former.
Manuel Herrera Garcia followed Tabello in fifth place after Liang collected a huge chunk of his stack, and Nguyen got his remaining chips using a pair of fives. Even so, the four-handed action didn’t last for long, as Carr exited the tournament in fourth place.
Liang left the table in third place after Nguyen knocked him out and collected his chips. The latter used king-ten to call Liang and Carr and shifted the event to heads-up play after getting another ten from the turn.
Karrim and Nguyen traded pots in the heads-up play’s first level, but things changed after Karrim used a low pair to jam the turn and Nguyen revealed a straight, thus winning the tournament. Karrim settled for a runner-up position and took home $331,470.
