The second game of this brief two-game series will be played on Wednesday between the (37-45) Los Angeles Angels and the (39-40) Miami Marlins at loanDepot park. The Angels defeated the Marlins in both of their games early in the year, but the Marlins got revenge with a 2-1 win last night.
The Angels are not playing great baseball as of late, going 3-7 in their last ten games, including getting swept by the Astros in their last series. The offense has also been very cold, and they mustered another poor performance that included just three hits in game one of the series.
The Miami Marlins had won the first three games of their four-game series against the Washington Nationals heading into Game one with the Angels. They’ve been playing excellent as of late, with seven wins in their last ten games.
For Game Two, sportsbooks are giving the edge to the Angels as they are -170 money line favorites, while the Marlins are +145 betting underdogs at home.
Los Angeles Angels
Although the Los Angeles Angels‘ 2022 regular season hasn’t gotten off to the best start, there is still a long way to go in the season. That being said; however, the Angels struggled mightily against the Astros, scoring just four runs in Houston while losing all three games.
They have been ice cold at the plate, batting .233 (24th) as a team and scoring just 4.09 (23rd) runs per game. Anthony Rendon is out for the remainder of the season, but the offense still needs to pick things up, ranking 18th in the league in OPS. Mike Trout recorded one of the three hits yesterday; however, he has been struggling, hitting just .196 in his last 15 games.
The good news is the Halos will have Shohei Ohtani on the mound for Game Two. Ohtani has been excellent this season, utilizing a five-pitch mix and keeping opponents off balance. The two-way star has an incredible 2.68 ERA this season and hasn’t given up a run in his last three starts.
Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins had a rocky start to their MLB season, but over the past month, they have gradually improved. After sweeping Washington in four games, they are currently in fourth place in the NL East and only three games back from the last wild card spot. They pushed their winning streak to six after they took Game One over the Angels.
The Marlins have seen recent success thanks to their dominant performance on the offensive side of the ball. Currently, the Marlins are batting .244 (13th) as a team and scoring 4.43 runs (14th) per game.
They regularly put runners in scoring position on the base paths, and they have a number of men who can step up and drive them in. Jazz Chisholm has been the player to watch for this team; despite moving to the IL recently, the Bohemian is his .254 with a team-leading 14 homeruns for the fish.
The Marlins’ six-game winning streak will be on the line when they send out southpaw Trevor Rogers for Game Two. They’ll need a solid performance from the lefty, but he has struggled this year with a 5.56 ERA. In June, Rogers gave up an ugly 17 earned runs in 21 innings; he will look to change the tide with the calendar change.

This should be an interesting matchup with the struggling Angels having their best pitcher start on the mound while the Marlins’ hot offense will try to score enough runs for a struggling Trevor Rogers.
The Angels’ bats have been dead cold, scoring just 19 runs in their last eight games. It didn’t go any better on the road in Game One against the Marlins, as they mustered just three hits on Tuesday Night. Despite this, I think they are in great shape to rebound against Miami when they face a struggling left hander.
Miami is on a six-game winning streak; however, I think that comes to an end when they face one of the best pitchers in baseball for Game Two. Shohei Ohtani has been lights out as of late, conceding just ten hits in his last 20 innings, including allowing zero runs. As good as Miami’s offense has been, I like the Angels’ chances in this one.
