The Las Vegas Sands Corporation, one of the biggest casino operators in the US, has announced that there’s a possibility of its casinos reopening their doors to visitors starting in June. The operator is hoping to begin the opening process for all venues that are located in Las Vegas next month after all its employees are tested for coronavirus.
Taking Necessary Steps for Eventual Re-Opening
The casino giant confirmed that the plan is to start with reopening the main venue, The Venetian Las Vegas, followed by the reopening of The Palazzo. Both venues, including all other properties in Las Vegas, were forced to shut down their operations and close their doors to visitors due to the coronavirus pandemic. The virus has so far taken the lives of 300 Las Vegas residents.
According to Las Vegas Sands, all employees who want to return to work at either of the two giant venues that will be reopened must undergo a coronavirus test. They will only be allowed to return to work if the test result is negative for COVID-19.
Moreover, Sands announced that the company would pay for the mandatory screenings of all its employees. This also includes the employees that aren’t part of the medical insurance plan provided by the company.
According to this piece in the Las Vegas Journal-Review, the casino operator will also provide free tests for all people who live with individuals that return to work to Sands’ venues and are over 13 years of age. In other words, the company wants to make sure no roommates or family members of their employees are infected, either.
Examination by Experts
Las Vegas Sands stated that all staff members who return to work in Nevada would have access to voluntary antibody tests. Such screenings would allow the employees to find out whether they have the antibodies. If they do, that means that they were actually exposed to the coronavirus but that their immune system created antibodies.
These tests would be administered by PMH Laboratory Incorporated and The Wellness Group. Staff would be tested inside the Sands Expo and Convention Center, and their results would remain confidential.
The Sands even published an official statement, claiming that the safety and health of employees is their top priority at the moment. Moreover, they claim in the statement that the company is working hard to prepare the venues and welcome guests.
All in all, it’s safe to say that Las Vegas venues are eager to follow the guidelines published by the Nevada Gaming Control Board in hopes of reopening as soon as they can.
Most of them believe that venues will be reopened by the start of June, and that also seems to be the case for the two casinos operated by Las Vegas Sands. However, there’s still the issue of visitors, as not many people are expected to go to Las Vegas in the first place.
