World Series Game 1: Dodgers @ Red Sox

Every baseball fan in the country, and many around the world, have been waiting for this day: the World Series is here!  The Los Angeles Dodgers went 92-71 on the year, winning the National League west division. They beat out the Colorado Rockies by one game in the division.  Then, they began the playoffs against the Atlanta Braves. They took that series 3-1, then took on the Milwaukee Brewers. To cap off an extremely dramatic series, a Yasiel Puig home run proved to be the series winner in game 7.

The Red Sox went 108-54 this season (Only 6 teams have had more wins in a season), easily running away with the American League East division.  They began the playoffs by defeating the Wild Card-winning New York Yankees 3 games to 1. Then, they took on the Houston Astros. This League Championship Series was dramatic as well, but it only took 5 games for them to dispatch the defending champions.   The Boston Red Sox are favored in this matchup: at -156.

Pitching Matchup is a Great One

This game will feature a matchup of not only two of the best left-handed pitchers in the game, but also arguably two of the best left-handed pitchers ever.  Both of them have a sidearm, whip-like windup, and strike out a lot of batters. These men are Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale.

Clayton Kershaw has been a cornerstone for the Dodgers franchise for a few years now.  He went 9-5 on the year and had a 2.73 ERA on the season. He led the team in strikeouts as well, with 155.  Kershaw will need to continue striking batters out consistently during this game.

Chris Sale struck out way more batters than Kershaw, racking up an incredible 237 Ks.  He also accumulated a better record, with a 12-4 mark. Sale is also one of those left-handed pitchers who doesn’t struggle as much against right-handed hitters as a left-handed pitcher normally does.  Sale comes into this game favored but will need to work his way through an extremely effective Dodger lineup.

Both Teams with Lofty Stats

The Dodgers have a plethora of good offensive players in their lineup.  Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Justin Turner, and Manny Machado are some names that come to mind.  They have the potential to hit the ball well during this game, regardless of how great a pitcher Chris Sale is.  Turner leads the team with a .312 average. He and Puig, who had the huge home run that got the Dodgers here, will be big factors in this game.

For the Red Sox, Mookie Betts has been hitting the ball well.  He has a .346 batting average. J.D. Martinez is not far behind, having finished with a .330 average.  They have shown, as a team, that they hit the ball well consistently at a level exceeding most teams.

Sale Back and Ready

Chris Sale says that he is 100% ready for this game after being sidelined with an illness.  He will need to prove that to the fans and his teammates tonight.

Red Sox Win Game 1

While the Dodgers are a great team in their own right, it took a lot of breaks and tough games to get them to this point.  The Red Sox played better than them all season, and throughout the playoffs, and that won’t stop now. Bet on the Boston Red Sox at -156.
