PokerStars Enforces Lifetime Ban on Player Accused of ‘Buttoning’

The term “buttoning”  is one that is well known in the online poker universe and one that is not tolerated by ANY respectable online poker room. Players who quit a game before their blind and start at a fresh table on numerous occasions are considered to be practicing buttoning. The most recent incident of this comes from PokerStars and the player who was initially accused of it has now been banned for life.

The player, who goes by the name Jama-dharma, was apparently hitting up the high stakes tables on a very regular basis. The player was told by PokerStars on numerous occasions to stop violating the button rules but he continued, thus a lifetime ban was enforced. The player will not be unable to join the online poker room ever again.

Jama-dharma is a common forum poster at the TwoPlusTwo poker forums and posts under the name Feruell. Just recently the player at question reported on the story himself stating that PokerStars had made the terms perfectly clear and there would be no second chances. The site told the player if he continued to abuse the blinds or if he was found to be angle-shooting in any ‘other’ way, he would see his account closed on a permanent basis.

Jama-dharma was then accused of buttoning in four additional reports and this was the cause of his permanent ban. Despite the ban, the player has still been able to withdraw the money he has at the site. The full report by the player states that he was accused of starting and leaving games on several occasions before a blind had to be posted. The site allows players to quit games but the rules do not allow for players to make strategic moves which allows for blinds to be skipped by the expense of players who are involved in the game as well.
