WSOP $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship Win Goes to Ian Johns

The 2016 World Series of Poker continues on and one of the most recent events to finish up includes the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship. The event saw 110 players competing with a total prize pool of $1,034,000 up for grabs. In the end it was Ian Johns who earned the first place win, securing his second WSOP gold bracelet for 2016.

Johns first gold bracelet of the series came with the win of the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event which took place just ten days prior in Las Vegas. The poker pro, just 31 years of age, has done well, earning his second bracelet with the win during the $10,000 Championship event.

When the final day of game play began, Johns was second in chips, with ten players remaining. Top pros joining Johns at the table included Brock Parker, Bill Chen, David Chiu, Phillip Tom and Brian Rast. These pros would be eliminated and once the tournament was down to two, it would be Johns and Sean Berrios who remained. Johns would take the lead quickly and continue until he earned the win.

On the final hand, Johns would raise from the button and Berrios would three-bet. Johns called and then Berrios would bet in the dark. The dealer showed 8-4-3 on the flop with Johns then betting and Berrios calling. With a Jack the next card, Berrios would bet again. Johns raised and Berrios would be at risk as he called, but of course he did.

Johns held K-8 of diamonds which gave him a pair of eights and a flush draw with the board. Berrios held A-10 off suit and with a 2 of spades coming on the river, neither hand was improved and Johns would secure the win with the pair.
