Western Conference Playoffs Game 2: Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Golden State Warriors play host to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of their best of 7 series on Monday night in Oracle Arena. The Warriors took game one of this series with a 113-92 win. The Warriors, who are the 2nd seed in the West, look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead, while the Spurs look to steal home-court advantage for this series.

Both the Spurs and the Warriors have a ton of recent postseason experience and success. The Golden State Warriors swept the San Antonio Spurs last season in the Western Conference Finals en route to an NBA Championship. Both teams are missing an All-Star from their roster with the Spurs missing Kawhi Leonard, and the Warriors without Stephen Curry. The Warriors are -9 over the Spurs on Monday night.

San Antonio Spurs Look to Bounce Back

The San Antonio Spurs did not get off to the start they were looking for in this series with the Game 1 loss on Saturday. The Spurs got off to a cold start, scoring only 17 first quarter points, and they never were able to really get back into the game. Rudy Gay led the Spurs with a team high 15 points in the loss.

The Spurs will need power forward, Lamarcus Aldridge, to have a much better game on Monday night than he did in Game 1. The All-Star big man scored only 14 points on 5-12 shooting to fall well short of his regular season scoring average. Head Coach, Gregg Popovich will be looking to find new ways to score against the tough Warriors defense.

Golden State Warriors Want to Defend Home Court

The Golden State Warriors had little trouble with the Spurs in Game 1, even though they were playing without Stephen Curry. Klay Thompson led the offensive surge for the Warriors finishing with 27 points while shooting 11-13 from the field. The Warriors shot over 54% from the field as a team on Saturday afternoon.

Former MVP, Kevin Durant, had a terrific all around game in the series opener. Durant finished with 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists along with playing terrific defense. Even with a high-powered offense at their disposal, Golden State was able to take Game 1 with their suffocating defense. They held the Spurs to just 92 points on 40% shooting while also out rebounding San Antontio 51-30.

Warriors Take Control of the Series

San Antonio Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich will have his hands full trying to make adjustments for game 2. Arguably one of the NBA’s best coaches, Popovich will have to figure out a way for his team to get easy baskets against the Warriors defense. Playing without the services of Kawhi Leonard is a tough task for the Spurs.

The Golden State Warriors meanwhile had little trouble in game 1, even though they were missing Stephen Curry. Thompson and Durant stepped up to lead the offense, and they played their typical outstanding defense. The Warriors will use the raucous Oracle Arena crowd to propel them to a game 2 win, and a 2-0 series lead. Bet the Golden State Warriors -9 over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.
