West Virginia Mountaineers at Oklahoma State Cowboys Betting Pick

No. 16 West Virginia looks to bounce back after a hard-fought loss at Kansas on Saturday with a quick turnaround playing on the road at Oklahoma State on Monday night. The Mountaineers led the Jayhawks in Phog Allen Fieldhouse at the half by six points but were unable to hold on down the stretch, falling 60-53.

Shooting was mostly to blame for the Mountaineers’ demise, as the team shot 35.6 percent overall and just 2-of-14 from behind the three-point line. Emmitt Matthews, Derek Culver, and Jermaine Haley combined to go just 3-of-19 from the field.

Miles McBride continued his solid play with 13 points off the bench but received little help outside of Oscar Tscheibwe, who logged a stellar 17 points and 17 rebounds. West Virginia now sits at 11-2 overall and 0-1 in Big 12 play.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State has been predictably solid, if unspectacular during the 2019-20 season. The Cowboys come into Monday night’s game at 9-4 with no bad losses on the season while sporting solid wins against Syracuse, Yale, and Houston.

The Cowboys are led by senior guard Lindy Waters (13 points, 4.8 rebounds) and senior forward Cam McGriff (9.6 points, 6.8 rebounds).

Sophomore guard Isaac Likekele has struggled in his two games since returning from injury, averaging just 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds. He averaged 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and five assists per game to start the season.

West Virginia is a 1.5-point favorite on the road, while the over/under has been set at 138.5 points.

West Virginia Looks For First Big 12 Win

The Mountaineers come into Monday night’s game at 7-6 against the spread but are 4-1 ATS in their last five. They are also 3-10 on the over/under and have hit the under in six consecutive games.

West Virginia is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games against Oklahoma State. West Virginia has also hit the under in five of their last six true road games.

Can Boynton Continue To Dominate Huggins?

Since taking over the Oklahoma State job, head coach Mike Boynton is 3-1 straight up against Bob Huggins and West Virginia, with each game being decided by eight points or fewer. The Cowboys won both games last season by an 85-77 score.

In the last five games of the series, the total has gone over four times, which is not typical for both programs. As a dog, Oklahoma State is 3-1 on the season ATS but just 2-5 against the spread at home on the season.

Under Boynton, Oklahoma State is 28-15 at home straight up and 3-4 against Top 25 opponents.

Pick and Prediction

If you are an eye test person and have seen both of these teams play, you would instinctually take West Virginia in this game without thinking twice. However, the Big 12 isn’t doing the Mountaineers any favors with this scheduling, as they are going to tip in Stillwater just 51 hours after playing at Kansas.

The Kansas game took place less than a week after traveling to Cleveland to take on Ohio State as well. Stillwater is an awfully tough place to play, and even though the Cowboys also played on Saturday, being home is a beautiful thing.

Boynton has had Huggins’ number, and the home court is going to play a major factor, so take the Cowboys to win straight up in what will most likely be an ugly game. Play the under.
