Tuesday Night Baseball Betting Preview: Cardinals @ Brewers

The St. Louis Cardinals visit Miller Park, where they will take on the Milwaukee Brewers.  The first pitch is at 6:40 pm central. This Divisional matchup could prove to have been important later in the season.  St. Louis is 28-23 this year, good enough for third place in the National League Central division. The Brewers are 35-20 so far this year, and are holding onto a 4 and a half game lead over the Cubs in the same division.  The Cardinals are 5 games back of the Brewers and a win could move them ahead of the Cubs and into second place.

Michael Wacha will take the mound for the Cardinals in this matchup.  Wacha is 5-1 so far this year, with a 2.88 ERA. Meanwhile, Zach Davies will get the nod for Milwaukee.  He has posted a 2-4 record, and a 4.74 ERA.  Davies will be looking to pull closer to an even record.  Both teams are -110 in this matchup.

St. Louis Cardinals

Several players to watch in this game are Matt Carpenter, Jedd Gyorko, and Marcel Ozuna.  They have all batted extremely well against Davies in their career.  Gyorko is batting an incredible .647 through 17 at bats against him. Carpenter has faced him 21 times, and has hit .429.  Ozuna is hitting .429 through the 14 times he has faced him.

Overall, Jose Martinez is leading the Cardinals on the offensive end.  He is hitting .306 overall this year. He has also driven in 31 runs while crossing the plate 20 times himself.  Martinez has also walked 20 times. Jedd Gyorko, who was mentioned above, is also having a good offensive season to go along with his good stats against Davies.  Gyorko is hitting .286 this season, while driving in 15 runs. Look these two to be a factor in the outcome of this game.

Milwaukee Brewers

Tyler Saladino came to Milwaukee after a disappointing tenure with the White Sox, and he hasn’t stopped hitting since.  In 15 games (he was a pinch runner in 2), he has hit .311 and driven in 8 runs while hitting 3 home runs.  He could prove to be a big factor in this game. He has faced Wacha just 3 times, but has hit safely twice, including a home run.  He would like to add to that today. Jesus Aguilar could also prove to be a big factor.  He is hitting .315 and has driven in a massive 30 RBIs.  He has also hit 9 home runs. He has faced Wacha 5 times and hit safely once, a solo homerun.

Brewers Outslug Cardinals

Michael Wacha has been impressive this year to say the least.  Also, the Cardinals have hit Davies pretty well throughout their respective careers.  However, it is hard to very against a team as hot as Milwaukee. I definitely don’t see this game being a pitchers’ duel, but I see Milwaukee having the offensive firepower to get the job done, barring an out of this world performance from Wacha.  Bet Milwaukee at -110.
