The Yankees and Rays are set to play Game 3 of the ALDS in San Diego on Wednesday. These teams are tied, splitting the first two games. The Yankees hard-hitting offense couldn’t deliver enough runs to make it a 2-0 lead last night.
What’s been great to see has been the emergence of Giancarlo Stanton as the star of the team that he was expected to be when they first acquired him from Miami. He has been crushing the ball at a career-high rate, putting up numbers we haven’t before seen. If he can continue to crush it, it makes NY that much more dangerous.
Tampa Bay, on the other hand, is continuing to do what they do best, which is getting five-to-six innings minimum from quality starting pitchers and hitting in the clutch. It’s a solid Rays lineup, even with all of the guys they have traded away in the past few years. Despite a recent AL Manager of the Year award, Kevin Cash is still extremely underrated as a skipper.
We’ll see who wants Game 3 more.

The moneyline on Tampa Bay is set at +105, while it’s -122 for New York. The over/under is set at nine runs.
Tampa Bay Looks for 2-1 Lead
The winner of Game 3 will have a significant edge in the series. This year is different than any other, as there aren’t any days off in between games. So, it’s basically a sprint, and whoever lasts longer, lasts longer. It may neutralize several bullpen guys on both sides.
They plated seven runs on Tuesday night, and we saw Peter Fairbanks bringing the heat in the ninth inning to put the game away. He didn’t save any regular-season games and finished just two.
Closer Nick Anderson was used earlier in the game, so he was then unavailable to finish. Fairbanks got Aaron Judge to ground out to end it.
Charlie Morton takes the mound for Tampa Bay. He went 2-2 with a 4.74 ERA in nine starts. In 38 innings, he struck out 42 and walked 10.
Yankees Look for Big Win
The Yankees definitely feel as if they blew one in Game 2. They got their first two runners on in the ninth Tuesday night, but could only get one run in. Gary Sanchez’s struggles at the plate continued, and Judge fell behind 0-2 after a few quick strike calls.
They afforded themselves a game like Tuesday night after starting with a 1-0 lead, though. Despite all of the preseason expectations, they are still underdogs in the series. It can’t always be perfect.
But the Yankees have to have a short memory and get right back to it. Oh, and some Stanton dingers would be nice. Again.
They’ll send 31-year-old Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. He went 3-3 with a 3.56 ERA in 10 starts in the regular season. He struck out 44 and walked just eight in 48 innings.
Tanaka Leads Yanks to Victory
It will be a win for the Bronx Bombers tonight, as they take a 2-1 series lead. Six strong innings from Tanaka will set the tone.
