The first game of the day on Friday features the Loyola Ramblers and Nevada Wolf Pack. This game will be played at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta Georgia. The 11th seeded Loyola Ramblers are the talk of the tournament with back to back wins over Miami and Tennessee. The Missouri Valley Conference champions come in with a 30-5 record on the season.
For the Nevada Wolf Pack, they used two come from behind wins to get to the Sweet 16. The Wolf Pack are 29-7 on the season. In the tournament, Nevada beat Texas by 4 in overtime, and then Cincinnati by 2. Nevada comes into this game as the favorite. The Wolf Pack are -2 over Loyola on Friday.
From the Missouri Valley Conference – the Ramblers have been amazing in the postseason. They beat Miami 64-62 and then beat Tennessee 63-62. The Ramblers are hoping to keep it up, in a region where it’s up for grabs, with the 5th seed the best remaining. In the regular season, the Ramblers showed signs of life with a non conference win over Florida.
The Ramblers are one of the best defensive teams in all of College Basketball. Loyola is allowing teams to score just 62.2 points per game. Offensively, they shoot the basketball well, but do not rebound real well. The Ramblers are 327th in the country with just 32 rebounds per game.
Wolf Pack Seeking 30th Win
The Nevada Wolf Pack are looking for their 30th win of the season. The Wolf Pack played well all season, but lost in the Mountain West Tournament. Their body of work was good enough to get an at large bid in to the tournament. The Wolf Pack lost non conference games back to back to Texas Tech and TCU by just a combined 10 points. Caleb Martin is the top scorer for the Wolf Pack with 18.8 points per game.
The Wolf Pack are 16th in the country with 83 points per game. The defense for Nevada has not been the best, as they are allowing nearly 74 points per game. This is the 8th NCAA Tournament trip for the Wolf Pack, and they are seeking their 7th tournament win. Nevada has never been to the NCAA Final Four.
Nevada Downs Ramblers
What a game this should be. Eric Musselman and his crazy coaching style against Porter Moser. Both are up and coming coaches in College Basketball. Both teams have great talent, and are smart teams. In the end though – the Wolf Pack and their toughness is going to put them over the top. Nevada and Loyola have both faced a few tough times this tournament. But, Nevada -2 over Loyola is too tough to pass up. Bet the Wolf Pack over the Ramblers.
