Saturday MLB Betting: Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels

The Texas Rangers visit Angel Stadium in Anaheim to take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  First pitch will be at 8:07 central. The Rangers are sitting in last place in the American League West division, with a record of 24-36.  They are 13.5 games out so, while this game probably won’t have playoff implications for them in the long run, they would still like a win to build up some confidence after being shut out last night.  The Angels, however, are in 3rd in the same division with their 31-27 record. They are definitely in the hunt for first place, but are still 5 and a half games out. Another win here could prove to be important.

Cole Hamels will take the mound for the Rangers.  Hamels is 3-5 on the year, with a 3.74 ERA.  He has certainly shown himself to be an elite pitcher in the past, but he will look to improve toward a .500 record with a win in this one.  For the Angels, Garrett Richards will take the mound.  Richards is an even 4-4, with a 3.67 ERA.  Angels at favored in this matchup: at -178.

Texas Rangers

Nomar Mazara has been doing work for the Rangers.  With Adrian Beltre hurt and Elvis Andrus recovering from a broken elbow, there’s never been a point in the season where a youngster needs to step up quite like now.  Having a new face playing well would certainly be a boost to the Texas fans. Mazara is hitting .278, but has been hitting with power, driving in 37 runs. He has also hit 13 home runs.

Shin Soo Choo will also be another factor in this game.  Choo has driven in 24 runs, while hitting .264.  He has also hit 9 home runs. He has not shown good plate discipline, a fact shown by his 59 strikeouts.  In fact, he had more strikeouts than hits (58).

Los Angeles Angels

Andrelton Simmons is showing himself to be one of the elite hitters in today’s game.  He is hitting an astounding .335 so far this year. He has also driven in 33 runs.  Perhaps the most impressive thing that he has shown, especially as a younger player, is his great plate discipline.  Simmons has 70 hits and only 10 strikeouts this season. This shows that he is able to lay off of pitches out of the zone and wait for one that is hittable.

Unsurprisingly, Mike Trout is once again one of the most effective hitters in the league.  Trout is hitting .305, with 36 RBIs. He has also walked 50 times and hit 18 home runs.  Since he has been firing on all cylinders, look for him to be a player to watch in this one.

Angels Top Rangers

While Cole Hamels has been one of the better pitchers in the league throughout his career, he has been shaky this year.  Combining this fact with the dominant stats the Angels have put up spells trouble for Hamels. Look for Simmons and Trout, who have been masters at getting on base, to be running the bases well, being driven in by the other bats in the lineup. Bet the Los Angeles Angels at -178.
