Pac 12 Showdown: UCLA Bruins at Colorado Buffaloes

Losing a QB of Josh Rosen’s talent level is something that can absolutely kill a team. As you can see with the Bruins, that is the case, as they are winless, and as we will elude to, have a horrific offense.

The Buffaloes on the other hand are off to a surprising 3-0 start after winning just five of twelve games a season ago. Mike Macintyre has done a good job with his team. Colorado is -10 in this game on Friday night.

UCLA Bruins

When you bring in a coach like Chip Kelly, offense is supposed to be the team’s calling card. Well, Dorian Thompson-Robinson hasn’t done much, the running game has not either, and the Bruins are averaging just 17 points per game through three. The defense is allowing 37 points per game, and they are unable to even keep things close. Lacking weapons in all facets of the game, and a coach who can still win, times are tough in UCLA. Josh Rosen couldn’t get the team to a winning record last year, but was at least talented enough to keep them in games.

One thing they have had going for them has been a decent pass-rush. Kelsean Lucier-Smith is leading the team with two sacks, with multiple players each having one. This is not the calling card of the team either, as no area seems to be. It is not even certain that Chip Kelly makes it through the entire season at this stage, with how they have been performing.

Colorado Buffaloes

It’s been a strong start to the year for Steven Montez, with 855 yards, 8 TD’s, and 2 INT’s, through three weeks. Travon McMillan has also been averaging 8.8 yards per carry and been a big extender of various of the team’s drives. Laviska Shenault Jr. has 26 catches for 455 yards in just three weeks, and is far and away the top target for these guys. The odds are very much in Colorado’s favor, as with a win in this game, they are already within one of tying the total from ALL of last season. How about that.

The team’s premiere defense player, LB Nate Landman is going to have to play a big part for the Buffaloes this week if they want to ensure victory. He’s got a pair of INT’s, a team-high 33 tackles, and a sack. He ends plays quickly, and needs to be the leader. Mustafa Johnson, who has 3.5 sacks will also need to deliver. The odds are not very good for UCLA, and if these guys do their part, it will be even worse for the Bruins.

Colorado improves to 4-0, drops UCLA to 0-4

Yeah, it is not a very good year for UCLA. Josh Rosen has moved on, and the team has no offensive weapons, with their renowned head coach absolutely failing miserably to get anything going.

4 more TD passes will be thrown by Steven Montez, while Travon McMillan will run for two more. Blowout.
