NL Contenders Collide: Dodgers (53-43) vs. Brewers (55-43)

The Dodgers have been keeping pace around 10 games over .500 for the past few weeks, leading a rather tight division race in the NL West. Rookie Max Muncy has powered the team, hitting a home run every 10 at bats, while Matt Kemp’s strong play in left field helped turn the team around.

The Brewers on the other hand lost six straight games shortly before the break and in the process, lost their division lead on the Cubs. They find themselves in second place and in need of a quick fix as the season resumes for them tonight.

Los Angeles Dodgers

A great surprise for these guys this year has been the emergence of Ross Stripling as the most reliable/healthy starting pitcher on the squad. He’s over 100 strikeouts on the year, has posted a 2.08 ERA, and leads the team with eight wins. He deservingly got voted into the All Star Game, and his pitching has been significant. Yasmani Grandal and Chris Taylor have come back to earth after slow starts to the season, while the power of Cody Bellinger has finally started to be visible.

The Dodgers will be sending Rich Hill to the mound for his thirteenth appearance (twelfth) start of the season. He has posted a 2-4 record with a 4.55 ERA In 55 1/3 innings of work. He has struck out 60 batters while walking 20. In his last start against the Padres on July 10th, he allowed four runs on eight hits over seven innings, while striking out seven batters.

Milwaukee Brewers

This is a team that is going have to rebound quickly now, following their six-game skid to take them out of first place. The improvement will have to start with breakout star Jesus Aguilar, leading the team with a .298 average, 24 HR’s, and 70 RBI’s. He participated in the HR Derby, where he struggled a bit. Travis Shaw, Christian Yelich, and Lorenzo Cain are going to have to help pick up the slack for this team, as they look for more victories, beginning in their series at home with the Dodgers.

They will send Wade Miley to the mound for just his fourth start of 2018. He’s looked a lot better than in his time with the Orioles last year so far. He’s gone 1-1 in his three starts, three runs in 11 1/3 innings of work. He has nine strikeouts as well as nine walks. He made his return after a two-month injury absence on July 12th against the Pirates, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings.

Miley, Brewers, get the win

It will be a good day for the Brewers, as they begin to turn things around tonight. Six solid innings from Wade Miley will help to lead them to victory.
Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun will both go deep in this contest, giving the team plenty of run support. Win number 56 is on its way, Milwaukee!
