NFL News and Notes: Player Movement Continuing Around the League

Following the NFL Draft a few weeks ago, the movement of players to different teams through trades and free agency has not stopped. This is the one sports league that is still conducting its business as usual, with their offseason going on as normally scheduled. Let’s get to some of these signings.

Gore Signs With Jets

Two days ago, it was announced that Frank Gore, the third-leading rusher in NFL history, is going to be continuing his career next season in another new home. He’s heading to the Garden State after inking a one-year deal with the Jets. There is a lot of optimism surrounding this team, something we haven’t seen in an offseason since the Mark Sanchez days.

Gore played a steady role for the Bills’ playoff team a season ago. He made the decision to join the Jets over any other team because of his familiarity with Adam Gase from the 2018 season in Miami. After averaging a career-low in yards per carry (3.6) a season ago, Gore is going to be hoping to turn it around here.

He’s worn a different number with each of the four franchises he has represented, so let’s see what he chooses to do here. It’s worth noting that last year marked the first time since he left San Francisco that Gore’s team qualified for the postseason.

Raiders Moves

Fourth-year Broncos RB Devontae Booker is taking his talents elsewhere in the AFC West. He’s going to be joining the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2020 season. He didn’t see the field too often in the past three years and received just eight touches in 2019.

Booker is going to provide depth behind Josh Jacobs, who missed a few games with injuries last year. This move was no surprise, as Denver’s running back room became too crowded after the signing of former Charger Melvin Gordon.

Sam Young is now entering his 11th year in the National Football League. He’s played for five different teams after being a sixth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2010. He’s primarily been a backup at the tackle position, though he’s made 21 starts for his career.

He helped provide depth for the NFC champion 49ers a season ago after three years in Miami. He’s going to be joining Booker in Vegas. He’ll be available as a starter whenever the team needs him. It’s always great when you can bring in vets.

Joseph To Titans

We go to Tennessee for the next signing of a player that spent nine years in Houston. Johnathan Joseph hasn’t made a Pro Bowl appearance since 2012 but had been a steady presence in the Texans secondary since 2011. He’ll be staying within the confines of the division as he goes to Tennessee to replace Logan Ryan.

He played for the Bengals before that for his first five years. He’s intercepted 31 passes in his career, running seven back for touchdowns. He’s defended 194 passes in 200 career games.

Three of the four free agents mentioned in this article are all staying in the same division. They want that rivalry.
