NFL Football Week 3: Detroit Lions vs. New England Patriots

The Detroit Lions and New England Patriots will meet for an NFL week three matchup on Sunday night in Detroit. The Lions are still looking for their first win of the season, while the Patriots are looking to bounce back after a disappointing week two loss.

The Lions were embarrassed in the season opener by the New York Jets but showed signs of improvement in their week two loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The Patriots defeated the Houston Texans in week one but lost an AFC Championship game rematch to the Jacksonville Jaguars in week two. The Patriots come into this game as a seven-point road favorite on Sunday Night Football.

Lions Looking For Running Game

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has put up some great numbers already this season, but he hasn’t gotten much help from the rest of his offense. The Lions have racked up just 137 rushing yards through two games this season, and have yet to score a rushing touchdown. Kerryon Johnson leads the Lions with 13 carries for 60 yards, but they need more production from their running backs in this game.

The Lions defense is another unit that has failed them so far this season. Detroit has given up 39.0 points per game through two games, which ranks them 31st in the NFL. The Lions do lead the league in passing defense through two games, which could help them stay in this game against Tom Brady and the Patriots offense.

Brady Sharp Again in 2018

Tom Brady is off to another terrific start this season even at age 41. Brady has completed 68 percent of his passes for 511 yards and five touchdowns through the first two games of the season. His favorite target has once again been tight end Rob Gronkowski. “Gronk” has caught nine passes for 138 yards and one touchdown so far this season.

The Patriots defense has let them down this season, and head coach Bill Belichick is not happy about it. New England is in the bottom third of the league in points against, and they let the Jaguars throw the ball all over the field last weekend. The Patriots will need to shore up their secondary before facing Matthew Stafford and his relentless passing attack.

Patriots Pound Lions

This will be the second time already this season that the Detroit Lions will be featured in primetime. Their first outing against the New York Jets did not go well, and this game will likely go the same. Matthew Stafford has the ability to win games by himself, but Belichick and the Patriots will make the Lions running game try to beat them.

The Patriots are expected to activate Josh Gordon for the game against the Lions on Sunday. The wide receiver was acquired from the Cleveland Browns earlier this week, and he will give Tom Brady another weapon to throw to. New England is too talented to lose this game to the Lions, and they will dominate Detroit for an easy win. Bet the New England Patriots -7.0 in this game.
