The New York Yankees will play the second game of a four game road stand in Toronto, tonight at 4:07 PM ET. The Yankees are a -125 favorite with the Blue Jays at +115. The run line has the Jays set at -140 the Yankees at +127; the over-under is 9 at -118/+107 respectively.

Sabathia Throwing for Yankees

CC Sabathia will take the mound for the Pinstripes to start off a season in which Yankee nation hopes CC can at least approach last year’s numbers. The towering 37 year old left hander was able to make the transition from a dominant power pitcher to a crafty veteran relying on accuracy and pitch location.

His 14 win season with a 3.69 ERA in the 2017 season should be considered a masterpiece, especially when considering the 37 year old’s struggles with injuries and the daunting task of pitching in a bandbox against the AL East. He will take the mound tonight in a stadium projected to be 7th in all of baseball for offense by ESPN MLB Park Factors in hopes of denying father times inevitable win for at least one more season in pinstripes.

Helping Sabathia tonight is the most dangerous lineup in baseball. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are the two most powerful men who step into a batter box in the MLB, and the rest of the Yankees lineup don’t make it any easier for opposing pitchers. The 2018 New York Yankees will have little trouble living up to the Bronx Bombers moniker.

Blue Jays Counter with Estrada

Marco Estrada is tasked with stifling this dynamic young team and returning to the groove he had found in his first two seasons with Toronto. After slowly establishing himself as a dependable starter over his first seven seasons, Estrada had his best two seasons in the majors after signing with the Blue Jays in 2015.

The 2015 AL East Champion Blue Jays and the 2018 Blue Jays are a tale of two teams, one a contender in one of the best divisions in baseball, and the other a team of veterans in their twilight and castaways who fell short of the hype. Josh Donaldson is aging and has one foot out the door; David Price in a Blue Jays uniform only exists online and in pictures, and Jose Bautista is adding everyone he can on twitter but not playing baseball.

Wistful Jays fan only have to play Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s recent walk off video to put a smile on their face, but the 2018 season depends on veterans Curtis Granderson, Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, Marcus Stroman, and Estrada playing at a high level.

The back end of their rotation is actually pretty solid, and Justin Smoak & Ryan Grichuk have huge potential. In short, it would take the entire team exceeding expectations in the same season for the Blue Jays to become contenders, but it is not out of the question for them to become a dark horse in the AL wildcard.

Yankees Top Blue Jays

The Yankees lineup makes it hard not to pick them every day but there are obviously going to be a lot of days this season the Yankees do not win. I don’t believe this is one of them and the “Mash Brothers” get to Estrada early. We are going with Yankees 7-3 over Blue Jays.
